The Rulers of
England
519 Š 2018 AD
and
The Royal Heritage of
Dwight Albert Sharpe
For the approximate 1,500 years shown in this chart, my relatives
occupied an English throne and ruled England for about 90% of the time. Out of
77 Kings, Queens and Rulers listed, there are 63 (82% of them) who are related our
family lines. Some are wonderful and some are embarrassing! There were only about
100 years our family did not have the throne, and those years were prior to
William the ConquerorÕs Battle of Hastings in 1066, except for the seven years
that Oliver and Richard Cromwell were Commonwealth rulers.
It must be stated that professional genealogists generally believe
that documentation of information prior to the 1600s is of doubtful accuracy,
and generally matters not easily documented. Records were not given as serious
attention in those cultures as we might have hoped in our modern days.
However, it is my inclination to think that information about those ancient
individuals of some fame and royalty may have a little more believable accuracy
than non-royal people. That leads to
my giving enough cautionary credence to enjoy the stories as noted!
In the chart below, you are given the name of the Monarch, the years
of reign and, for those related to our family lines, a brief description of his
or her relationship to us.
Additionally, three other resources are provided for your further
inquiry, if you desire.
Clicking on the monarchÕs name of those related to us will give you a
genealogical chart showing that KingÕs or QueenÕs relationship to our family. Clicking on the years of reign will take
you to the Wikipedia report on all the Monarchs. Clicking on the first line of the
relationship description will take you to my composed sketch about that Monarch
and our mutual relationships. The
MonarchÕs not related to our family are included in the chart, along with the
years of reign. There just isnÕt
any further description.
*In some cases, a Monarch is listed with a
relationship description, but not a genealogical chart, nor a narrative
composed by me. In my genealogical
research in the past, there was experienced a partial computer crash, causing
me to lose some records. The
information on them have not been recovered, so charts and descriptions are
absent. There was surviving in
another recorded place a brief relationship description. In those cases, the Monarch is listed
below with an asterisk (*).
However, a link is provided on the years-of-rain citation which goes to
a Wikipedia display of that Monarch.
As of May 2018,
this is an Ņin progressÓ creation, so only portions have the hyperlinks applied
that are described here.
Here is a listing of Monarchs of
Wessex, in date order. It is the Monarchs of Wessex since 519, between
935 and 1066. The Kingdom
of Wessex was a
earldom of the Kingdom of England. it became a independent state again in 1066, when most part of
England was taken by the Normans.
Then, the chart continues through to contemporary times.
